Frequently Asked Questions
(And some things you might be curious about)
Are you a Shadow expert?
No. To be honest, I don't know everything about The Shadow; in fact I'm
still learning more about this fascinating character. Please keep in mind
that I'm human and I do make mistakes from time to time. If you see an
error on this site, please let me know.
How often do you update your site?
UPDATE - Due to my busy schedule, I
will be updating every other month starting February
2009. I work full time and some days I don't have any information
to update with. So if you encounter an update delay for this site, now
you know why. Please note that my world doesn't revolve around The Shadow;
I do need time off every once in a while. I've been known to take a hiatus
for a few months every now and then. Don't worry, I plan to keep this site
around for a very long time.
How do I know what's been recently added to the
site?
On the home page, I haved placed links to the newly added information.
Just click on the link and scroll down till you see the
symbol.
Do you have a mailing list for your site? I would
like to know about the updates.
Yes I do. Just drop me an e-mail and let me know.
Are you or your site on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter,
etc.?
No.
I just received an e-mail from you, sometimes
with an attachment. What is that about? Can I open it?
DO NOT OPEN IT! Delete it right away! Some malicious person is obviously
using my e-mail address to distribute a virus and/or to spread junk mail.
Personally, I do not send e-mails with attachments to people. If I ever
do, it is extremely rare and I will usually state the presence of an attachment
in the subject line of my e-mails.
When are you going to ressurect the polls?
I resurrected the Monthly and Sequel Polls for 2005 only, then I'm retiring
the polls indefinitely. I plan to resurrect the Sequel Poll every four
years, since tastes can change. Please understand that there are only so
many poll questions you can put out a year. By the way, if you have a good
poll question you would like to see, please let me know.
Do you sell any Shadow items on your site (e.g.
radio shows on tape, pulp reprints, memorabilia, etc.)?
No.
I have a/an [insert Shadow memorabilia here].
Are you interested in purchasing it?
Thank you for the offer, but at this time I have to decline.
I have a/an [insert Shadow memorabilia here].
Do you know how much it's worth?
I get this question all the time. Unfortunately I'm an amatuer collector,
not an appraiser. If you need to know the value of a piece of memorabilia,
you'll have to turn to a professional appraiser for expert advice.
I'm collecting Shadow comics, pulps, etc. Do you
know where to find them?
If you're collecting comics, check out your local comic stores and comic
shows/conventions. If you're collecting pulps, check out secondhand bookstores
for pulp reprints. The original pulps are harder to come by. If your city
has an annual pulp show, check that out as well. I also have links on my
site for places that sell pulps, comics, and some memorabilia. Then there's
always Ebay.
I've heard about Conde Nast and the copyright
issue. What is that about?
In January of 2004, I learnt about Condé Nast's lawyers sending out
a cease-and-desist (C&D) letter via e-mail to various Webmasters and Webmistresses
of Shadow-related Web sites. The Shadow sites that had pulps in pdf and
scanned pulp covers were told to remove all Shadow material or face legal
action; this led to some sites shutting down permanently. In the wake of
this (even though I haven't received a C&D letter), I had to take the scanned
pulp covers and pulp novels off my site.
UPDATE - There is an explanation for
all this: Condé Nast (who renewed their copyrights a long time ago,
not recently) has future plans for The Shadow. They are re-releasing the
pulps (hence the C&D for the sites offering free downloadable pulps)
and a new Shadow movie among other things. (Thank you
to Earl Roggeman for a heads up!)
