About the Webmistress
Once upon a time, there lived a young girl in the city of Edmonton
(in Alberta, Canada). She was attracted to all things dark and mysterious,
which would explain her Phantom of the Opera craze back in
the early 1990s. And just when she thought she would stick to one
masked man forever, she came across a book in the library about
another. It was the summer of 1994, and the book was a movie adaptation
of a character she had never heard of: The Shadow.
As she flipped the pages, she found herself drawn into an amazing
world of this crime-fighter. The author (James Luceno) had certainly
done his research, and peppered the book with details of The Shadow's
personal history, his army of agents, and his mode of operation.
The girl became more and more fascinated; her imagination was sparked.
This Shadow was far different than any crimefighter she had ever
known. He was an anti-hero: dark, unconventional, possessed no superpowers
(other than mind-clouding), and no special gadgets. He even had
outside help!
She was officially addicted.
The movie itself only added to that addiction. Soon, Phantom was
forgotten - sort of - and she now wanted to know more about The
Shadow. She went through movie magazines and library indexes, and
learnt that he existed long before she was born. He was everywhere:
pulps, radio, comics, and movies. She began to collect the comic
books, then radio shows on cassettes, movie memorabilia, and pulp
reprints. Soon, she was begining to amass a small collection.
Now years later, that girl is much older, wiser, an ex-Edmontonian
(but still in Canada), and just as addicted. What better way to
showcase her work than to build this Web site where she can share
her Shadow collection and knowledge with Shadow fans around the
world.
